Almost 90% of adults in Great Britain have accessed the Internet, with 69% having connected to the Internet using a mobile phone and 35% using a tablet. This book looks at trends in Internet usage, how the Internet has changed lives and what the Internet of Things is and how it works. It also explores digital dangers (such as ‘trolling’), experiences with in-app purchases, and whether rural areas are being left out of the roll-out of super fast broadband.
The information comes from a variety of sources, including government reports and statistics, newspapers and magazine articles, surveys and polls, academic research and literature from charities and lobby groups; articles have been tailored to an 11 to 14 age group. Additionally, at the end of each chapter are two pages of activities relating to the articles and issues raised in that chapter.
