Banned in 1928, and when it was published here in 1960, this frank depiction of a young woman's sensual awakening was at the center of a sensational obscenity trial in 1963. Constance Chatterley is deeply unhappy; married to an invalid, she is almost as inwardly paralyzed as her husband Clifford is paralyzed below the waist. Oppressed by her dreary life, she finds refuge and regeneration in the arms of Mellors the game-keeper.
